Dmitry Batalov is a pianist and musicologist. In 2016 he graduated with honors from the Central Music School at the Moscow Conservatory, in 2021, from Moscow Conservatory P.I. Tchaikovsky. Since 2022 he has been studying the Master in Special Performance of Contemporary Music at the Music Academy in Basel with Prof. Sarah Maria Sun, Yaron Deutsch, Marcus Weiss and Mike Svoboda. He also studies piano with Prof. Claudio Martinez Mehner and historical piano with Prof. Tobias Schabenberger and Ronald Brautigam.
His repertoire ranges from early-Baroque keyboard pieces to the present time, but the main focus of it is solo and chamber music of the 20th and 21st centuries. He worked with such composers as Helmut Lachenmann, Salvatore Sciarrino, Tristan Murail, Philippe Hurel, Dmitri Kourliandski, being also an active collabo rator with young composers and dedicatee of new works commissioned by him.
In October 2020, he won the 2nd prize and four special prizes at the biggest competition for the performance of contemporary piano music – Concours International de piano d'Orleans (France). He is also a 1st prize at the "Music Academy" competition in Moscow (2020), 3rd prize winner of the 8th John Cage Award in Halberstadt, Germany (2022) and 1st prize winner of Reate festival competition for contemporary music. His work is supported by Nicati-de Luze foundation of Switzerland.
He has been a participant of the Ferienkurse in Darmstadt, Impuls in Graz, festivals Sommersprochen in Rottweil, Beethoven Piano Club in Bonn, Moscow contemporary music Forum, Sound Up Forte, co-founder of Gnesin Contemporary MusicWeek. He performed with soprano Sarah Maria Sun, ensembles Intercontemporain, Opensound orchestra, Studio for New Music and was a resident of the Maison Dutilleux-Joy in 2021. He collaborates regularly with Divertimento Ensemble, being a participant of the IDEA Academy and presenting recitals of contemporary music at Fabbrica del Vapore in Milan.
