María Alejandra Jiménez is a violinist based in Basel, Switzerland. She creates innovative concert experiences, combining text and music and building bridges between the classical repertoire, 20th century music and contemporary music, which makes her a versatile and multifaceted violinist.
She has a vast experience playing chamber and ensemble music in Switzerland, France, Spain, Italy, Germany and Venezuela. Her interest in contemporary music has led her to perform in various venues, festivals and concert series such as Elbphilharmonie, KKL Konzertsaal, Gare du Nord, the Théâtre 2.21, the Salle Pen the Societé de Musique Contemporaine Lausanne, the Festival Resis and the Zeiträume Basel festival, under the direction of musicians such as Beat Furrer, Bas Wiegers, Heinz Holliger, Thomas Adès, Baldur Brönnimann, William Blank and Pierre-Stéphane Meugé, among others. María Alejandra has been a guest in prestigious ensembles such as the Ensemble Recherche, Ensemble Resonanz, Basel Sinfonietta, the Ensemble Lemniscate and the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra. She is currently a member of the Arxis Ensemble, a contemporary music ensemble based in Spain, and collaborates with the pianist Umberto Beccaria, founding the Duo Anamorfosi, that is specialized in 20th and 21st century music.
